Summer brings golf, water sports, camping, fishing, rafting, hiking, biking, rock-climbing, & horse-back riding.

Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi in the lower 48 states, is situated in the heart of the 100 mile long Flathead Valley. With over 200 square miles of water & 185 miles of shoreline, Flathead Lake offers activities for the whole family.

Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks maintains 13 State Parks & Public Access Sites scattered all around the shoreline of Flathead Lake. The State Park Recreation Areas have toilets, boat launch, camping, swimming, & picnic facilities. Also located along the west shore near the Big Arm State Park is Wildhorse Island, a 2,165-acre state park. The park is accessible only by boat and is a public day use and picnic area only. There is no overnight camping.

An hour north of Missoula & an hour south of Kalispell, POLSON, MONTANA, is located on the Flathead Indian Reservation at the south end of Flathead Lake. The Mission Valley south of Polson is bordered by the Mission Mountains.

The mild climate allows for the growing of a variety of fruits including apples, apricots, pears, plums, huckleberries, raspberries, & the famous Flathead Cherries. Polson celebrates with an annual Cherry Festival. Roadside stands along the East Shore of the lake offer a variety of the locally grown fruits.

There is so much to see & do around Polson all year long. In the winter, the lake offers ice-skating & ice fishing. Also popular are snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, or downhill skiing at Blacktail Mountain, just 45 miles north.
